Academic/Professional Experience and Achievements: 

 

Bastian is a PhD Candidate at the Doctoral School for Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations (Political Economy track). His research interests are in political economy, development, and inequality, with a focus on quantitative methods.
Bastian completed a Master’s degree with honors at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy (Erfurt University), and earlier received a Master's degree in Business Administration -with majors in behavioral economics and foreign trade- from Saarland University.
Before joining CEU, Bastian worked as a researcher at the German Development Institute (DIE) in Bonn. He gathered further expertise working for the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in the Philippines, the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) in Washington, D.C., and the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) at Sussex University.
